The tumor, classified as an ovarian cyst, weighed an impressive four kilos, and was removed in a "totally complex" surgery, says the provincial government, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.
According to the clinical director of the Lunda-Sul General Hospital, Zango Jonance, the tumor was in the abdominal cavity, with adhesions to the uterus, intestine and tubes. The manager explained that the patient had been living with the cyst for over a year, having been admitted to the emergency room on the 11th with a clinical picture of enlarged abdomen, severe pain in the lower abdomen and severe dehydration. After carrying out several tests, the mass was detected and surgery was scheduled.
The intervention, which lasted four hours, was conducted by a team of Angolan and expatriate professionals, led by doctor Zango Jonasse, and "demonstrated progress in the province's health sector, highlighting the competence of local medical teams and the evolution in the capacity to perform complex procedures".
At the moment, the patient is stable, despite still being in the ICU, but the medical team is confident about the evolution of the clinical condition.
The clinical director took the opportunity to alert women to the need for regular consultation with a specialist in women's health, as well as advice on the appropriate use of contraceptive methods, as misuse can result in situations similar to this, with serious health consequences.
The provincial government also says that this procedure reflects progress in strengthening the local health system, enabling patients to be treated within the province, without the need to travel to other regions or abroad.
