According to the spokesperson for the National Civil Protection and Fire Service of Angola, Félix Domingos, the fatalities were recorded in the provinces of Luanda, with two due to drowning, and Benguela and Huíla, due to electrical discharges.

Speaking to Lusa, the fire official noted that the intense rains falling across the country, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, caused more damage in the provinces of Lunda Sul, Cabinda, Namibe, Cuanza Norte, Bengo, Cuanza Sul, Benguela, Huíla, Cuando Cubango and Luanda.

"Here we highlight the provinces of Cuanza Sul, Cuanza Norte, Lunda Sul and Luanda as those that presented a picture with infrastructures with greater compromise as a result of the rains", said Félix Domingos.

The official also highlighted that a considerable number of homes were flooded due to the rain, which did not spare some infrastructure such as churches and schools, leaving several streets flooded and impassable.

He made it known that work to survey the consequences of the rains is still ongoing, through provincial civil protection commissions, considering there are reports of families still searching for their loved ones.

"But, this situation must always be associated with what is the aggregation of our efforts to have an assessment of the rains, because we cannot associate here any other situation (of deaths) that is directly related to the rains", he explained.

Containment of ravines, suction of water in retention basins that are overflowing, assistance with the mobility of some families in flooded areas are some of the actions underway by firefighters.

Félix Domingos also recalled that the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics predicts rain in the coming hours, urging citizens to comply with the authorities' measures to avoid greater rainfall.
