The provisional assessment of the rains was transmitted this Monday to Lusa by the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service, chief inspector Denise Panzo, reporting that the municipality of Viana, one of the most populous in Luanda, was the most affected by the storm.
"We continue to have some streets flooded, others impassable, mainly the secondary and tertiary streets are impassable, we also have reports of the expressway/direction Zango (Viana), and one of the most critical municipalities is Viana", said the spokesperson.
According to the person responsible, the Provincial Civil Protection Commission continues to survey the consequences of the rains and respond to the most critical areas and also investigate reports of a possible victim of the floods.
"We are taking steps to determine whether the death of this 70-year-old woman is truly true," she explained.
In addition to Viana, the municipality of Kilamba Kiaxi is also on the list of those most affected, especially in the interior of the neighborhoods, with flooded and impassable streets.
Luanda has recorded intense rain in recent weeks, and the same phenomenon was recorded in the early hours of this Monday, with showers that lasted more than six hours.
The National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (Inamet) warns of the occurrence of intense rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the provinces of Bengo, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul and Luanda until 1pm local time this Tuesday, December 12th.
The meteorological institution states, in a statement, that the province of Cuanza Norte will record the highest volume of rain and has therefore issued an orange alert for that location.
The province of Benguela is also on yellow alert due to forecasts of bad weather, with heavy rain and storms, until Tuesday.
The warning scale progresses from green (no warnings), to yellow (stay alert), orange (stay prepared) and red (danger, take action).
