Speaking to journalists, Victor Hugo Guilherme promised to "give continuity" to ongoing actions in the sector, highlighting "three major instruments", namely the Angola 2050 Long-Term Strategy, the National Development Plan 2023-2027 and the recently approved Budget of the State for 2024.

"The priorities are defined, especially agriculture to generate income and provide employment, because the national economy is there with great challenges ahead of us and we are here to work and do our best", stated the government official.

Victor Hugo Guilherme, who held the position of secretary to the President for Economic Affairs, was appointed on Wednesday to the position replacing Mário Caetano João, who had held the portfolio since 2021.

The new Minister of Economy and Planning, who took office this Thursday, is the fifth official to hold the position in João Lourenço's government, since 2017.

In addition to Mário Caetano João, dismissed on Wednesday, Pedro Luís da Fonseca (2017-2019), Manuel Neto da Costa (2019-2020) and Sérgio Santos (2020-2021) have already held the position.
