JLO brings together Executive to “take advantage of the moment” when analyzing exports to the USA

Cooperation between Angola and the United States of America (USA) was discussed, this Thursday, by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and members of the Executive. According to José de Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination, new opportunities may arise in the field of exports to the USA, and “we need to know how to take advantage of this new moment”.

According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the head of state worked, this Thursday, with members of the Executive, including ministers of state and ministers of productive sectors, with the aim of "addressing the future paths of the relationship" with the USA, after his meeting at the White House, a week ago, with his North American counterpart, Joe Biden.

On the occasion, Lima Massano confirmed that Angola and the USA are "effectively experiencing a new moment in their relations that should be marked by enhanced cooperation".

The Minister of State also informed that "new opportunities are opening up to the Angolan business community for more products to be exported to the United States, in addition to traditional oil and gas", the note reads.

Thus, Lima Massano considered that there was a need to know how to take advantage of this new moment: "We need to know how to take advantage of this new moment, to do our 'homework' properly", stated the government official, who considered that there were no doubts about the gains that the national economy will be able to achieve with the arrival of this new cycle.

José de Lima Massano also "made it clear that more projects could be financed" in the country by North American entities, not forgetting the Lobito Corridor, "which has had involvement several times announced by the American authorities".

João Lourenço was received a week ago by his counterpart Joe Biden, as part of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both statesmen discussed the next steps in deepening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, climate and energy, as well as the development of President Biden's Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI) for the Lobito Corridor, infrastructure railway that will connect Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRCongo) and Zambia to global markets through the Angolan port of Lobito.

The US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, recalled, on Wednesday, at a press conference in Luanda, the discussions between the two heads of state, saying that the meeting was an opportunity to talk about the future of the partnership, the which includes, he highlighted, more than a billion dollars of investment in the Corredor do Lobito transformer.

The diplomat highlighted that this is "the largest railway investment in US history in Sub-Saharan Africa", adding that, in the field of energy, the approaches point to more than 2 billion dollars in investments for projects.

This Thursday, João Lourenço, after presiding over the meeting with members of his Executive, which addressed relations between Angola and the USA, also chaired the second ordinary meeting of the Local Governance Council (CGL), which brings together the 18 governors of provinces and other individuals of the governmental apparatus.

The CGL is a collegiate body that assists the President in formulating and monitoring the implementation of State administration governance policies at local level.
