"The United States and Angola are currently celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations and are expanding cooperation in matters of trade, investment, regional security, climate and energy," the US State Department told Lusa, stressing that this is a "strategic partnership that has grown significantly" in recent years.

According to Joe Biden's executive, this year, the United States and Angola launched a new era of economic cooperation in favor of inclusive economic growth in both nations, including projects led by the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI), such as the planned North American investment for the Lobito Corridor.

This railway infrastructure, which will also count on investment from the European Union, will connect Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to global markets through the Angolan port of Lobito.

Additionally, the United States and Angola have worked together to address issues such as "combating corruption, access to justice and accountability for past human rights abuses, expanding democratic governance and protecting fundamental freedoms", noted the US Government.

Describing relations with Angola over the last few decades, the State Department recalled that it has had a partnership with Luanda since 1995 "to save lives, expand economic opportunities and promote environmental conservation through humanitarian demining", with Washington contributing " with more than 129 million dollars" for Angola's demining efforts.

"This assistance has resulted in the destruction of more than 26,000 landmines, improved the safety and security of more than 1.4 million civilians living near mined areas, and supported the Government of Angola's conservation efforts in the Okavango River Basin", pointed.

Additionally, the US Government is financing new solar projects in Angola.

At the regional level, the United States "strongly supports the commitment of Angola and Angolan President João Lourenço to find diplomatic solutions to the violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the broader Great Lakes region", according to the Department of State.

"The United States will continue to partner with Angola to promote greater regional stability," he added, speaking to Lusa.

In recognition of Angola's positive contributions to building peace and security in the region, the State Department highlighted the recent visit to Luanda by the US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, in what was the "first visit to the country by a Secretary of Defense" of the USA.

The President, João Lourenço, will be received at the White House by his North American counterpart, Joe Biden, on Thursday, as part of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This meeting will be guided by the principles of the US-Africa Leaders' Summit, in particular with regard to how the United States and African nations can continue to work together to address regional and global challenges, the White House said in a statement.
