Large Moagens in Angola buy 85 tons of national wheat from Novagrolíder

Grandes Moagens de Angola (GMA) received this week, at the Port of Luanda terminal, the second shipment of 85 tons of wheat grain purchased from Novagrolíder.

The understanding reached by these two Angolan companies demonstrates GMA's interest in including national raw materials in its production, in close alignment with Government guidelines and with the aim of contributing to the dynamization of the local economy through the reduction of imports and of the consequent savings in currency, says the company in a statement sent to VerAngola.

For César Rasgado, administrator of Grandes Moagens de Angola, this is a historic milestone, because it highlights the company's effort to contribute to the appreciation and much-needed diversification of the national economy. “We are, naturally, satisfied with the agreement we reached with Novagrolíder and with the fact that we can incorporate wheat grain from Angola into our production. However, we appeal to the Government to review the VAT rate and/or other tax charges associated with the production of national wheat and the production of national wheat flour, so that we can materialize a major objective that we have had since the beginning of this project, which involves maintaining and consolidating the national wheat flour producing industry”, highlights the same person in charge.

César Rasgado recalls that GMA “has always done this and wants to continue to do so using national labor, duly trained so that it has the necessary capabilities to guarantee production efficiency and quality; and, whenever possible, incorporating national raw materials, so that wheat production that already existed in the past in Angola can be relaunched. The joint work now started with Novagrolíder is a good stimulus for this objective to be achieved”.

GMA has been a member, since the beginning of its foundation, of the Angolan Wheat Flour Producers Association, which in the recent past signed an agreement to supply wheat grain with a farm in Bié, also to support the promotion of production national and economic diversification.

José Macedo, from Novagrolíder, assumes the interest of the company he leads in a continued partnership relationship with GMA to boost the cultivation and production of raw materials in Angola, as well as the production of 100 percent Angolan flour. “For us, these first shipments signify the highly promising beginning of our wheat production, as well as the certainty that 100 percent national flour can be produced in Angola”, highlights José Macedo.

“These two companies can play a very important role in reducing imports. Novagrolíder as a wheat producer and responsible for seed selection, promoting the production of peasant families and corporate agriculture with its activity. GMA, because it is a serious company with the potential to transform large quantities of cereal, can acquire national wheat and transform it into flour, which is then introduced into the commercial circuit that takes it to the consumer. In our opinion, these are two companies that complement each other and can be of added value to the dynamization and diversification of the national economy, as long as they are properly supported”, reinforced the person in charge.
