The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Portuguese side by João Gomes Cravinho and by the Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Francisco Alegre, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

"Its conversion into the National Liberation Museum for us has a very special meaning, because it happens precisely at the beginning of the year in which the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April is celebrated and a year before the celebration of the anniversary of the 50 years of Angola's independence", said the head of Portuguese diplomacy, at the end of the signing of the agreement.

Speaking to the press, Cravinho highlighted that as Portugal approaches the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April it is very important, especially for the youngest, to always remember that Portuguese freedom has a lot to do with the struggle for the colonial liberation of the people in several African countries colonized at the time by Portugal.

"There is a symbiotic relationship here, because these struggles for freedom, for independence, of the African people, including the Angolan people, are a very important stimulus for the fight for freedom in Portugal", he said.

According to João Gomes Cravinho, this support is precisely a celebration of what is a joint heritage, which is the freedom of States.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding "of direct support to the General Budget of the State of Angola" took place on the sidelines of João Gomes Cravinho's trip to Luanda, the Angolan capital, where he co-chaired the 6th ministerial meeting of the Joint European Union-Angola Path.

The Portuguese minister led the meeting on behalf of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
