According to the Secretary of State for the Economy, Ivan Marques dos Santos, who this Tuesday presented the National Plan for the Promotion of Grain Production, PlanaGrão, in addition to investment in production, another 471 million dollars will be made available annually for construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure to support the productive and social sector.
In 2021, Angola produced more than three million tons of grains, and by 2027, production is expected to reach five million tons of cereals, to which another million tons of grains from selected leguminous crops should be added, said the official, quoted in a communiqué from the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
To materialize the plan, public and private funds will be mobilized, including an investment of 1,178 billion kwanzas in infrastructure, which includes the demarcation of two million hectares, allotment and access roads to the production areas.
By 2027, it is expected that more than 673 thousand hectares will be used for wheat production, representing 34 percent of the land to be exploited; 600 thousand hectares are used in rice production, representing 30 percent; 400,000 hectares in soybean production, or 20 percent; and the remaining 16 percent, corresponding to more than 326,000 hectares, are reserved for corn production.
Additionally, 1,674 billion kwanzas will be invested in the capitalization of Banco de Desenvolvimento de Angola, BDA, and Fundo Activo de Capital de Risco Angolano, FACRA, to finance the national private sector, which has conditions for the production, logistics and transformation of grains, refers in the communiqué.
Commercial banks will also be able to mobilize funds to guarantee access to credit with more attractive interest rates for promoters of productive projects.
PlanaGrão aims to guarantee the country's food security, generate income and promote competitiveness to transform Angola, in the medium term, into the largest grain producer in the southern region of Africa, underlined the Secretary of State.
