According to a statement published on the official website of Lucapa Diamond Company, the discovery concerns a white diamond with over 100 carats.
This stone is the third with more than 100 carats to be found in this mine this year. The diamond is also the 16th to be discovered, so far, at the Lulo mine since its exploration began in 2016.
The note states that this stone was found in a new exploration area: "This 127 carat stone was recovered from the leziria area (flood plain) in the Bloco Mineiro 24 as part of the dry season oriented operations. This is the first diamond with more than 100 carats produced from this mining block".
Stephen Wetherall, Lucapa's executive director, quoted in the communiqué, considered that this discovery "continues to show the exceptional nature of Lulo.
He also highlighted "the potential of the previously planned mining campaign for these untouched and expansive areas of leziria along the Cacuilo River.
However, the company is still trying to discover the origin of these giant Lulo diamonds.
Remember that it was also in this mine that the largest diamond produced in the country was discovered: with 404 carats, the stone was discovered in 2016 and sold for 16 million dollars.
