Endiama mentions, in a press note sent to Lusa, that among the three polished diamonds stands out one of 15.2 carats in the shape of a heart, with an intense orange pink color, classified by the Gemmological Institute of America (GIA).

Two other diamonds resulting from this process of lapping the "highest quality gem" rough diamond, already found since the beginning of operations at the Lulo mine, "are two pears of 3.3 and 2.3 carats".

The rough diamond, according to a statement from Australian Lucapa Diamond, one of the partners of Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, was sold in March to South African Diamond Corporation (Safdico) for an undisclosed sum.

The president of the Board of Directors of Endiama, Manuel Ganga Júnior, mentioned in the note, considered that the results obtained from the cut diamond are the "corollary of the new government policies for the Angolan diamond subsector".

"They are also physical and visible evidence of the great potential of the Lulo mine, which, due to the quality and characteristics of the diamonds it has produced, reinforces our confidence in the future of the national diamond industry", reads the document, quoting the president of Endiama .

For his part, the executive president (CEO) and general director of Lucapa, Stephen Wetherall, also mentioned in the note, considered that "the recent promulgation of the regulation on the marketing of Angolan diamonds is having the desired effect".

Sociedade Mineira do Lulo, which operates the mine with the same name, is formed by Angolan state-owned Endiama, Australian Lucapa Diamod and Rosas e Pétalas, also from Angola.
