In his speech to commemorate the 64 years of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), this Saturday in Luanda, João Lourenço accused some parties and civil society forces of positioning themselves as "they were the only ones interested" in the holding of municipal elections.
Lourenço recalled that the MPLA, through its Parliamentary Group, "has contributed a lot to the approval of the laws that are part of the so-called Municipal Legislative Package", but said that there are still no conditions to hold municipal elections in Angola.
"We are witnessing a chorus of lamentations and demonstrations for the non-holding of (municipal elections) this year that is now ending, as if it were enough to claim for them to be held, which is not true and much less possible", acknowledged the leader of the MPLA.
"But we are a Democratic State of Law, which must base all its action on the basis of the law. Should the country institute autarchic power? Yes, but not at any price, in an illegal and clumsy way, because if we did it and the MPLA If the overwhelming majority of the chambers won, we are sure that it would be those same forces that irresponsibly say they can organize these elections now, that would claim that there was fraud, just because they did not win them ", explained João Lourenço.
Recalling that 2021 will be the year of the next MPLA Congress, João Lourenço proposes to carry out a "superior renovation" of the different organs of the party, thus preparing his candidate for the general elections of 2022.
"In the composition of our Management bodies, in addition to always paying particular attention to female and youth representation, we need to attract fringes of society and representative groups of citizens that, in a more comprehensive way, better reflect the ethnic-cultural, business and cultural mosaic. national academic-scientific ", promised the party leader.
