"[Peace] is one of the most important points on the political agendas of our countries, so that we can effectively be a strong voice and an effective presence on both regional and international agendas in favor of peace and prosperity," said Carolina Cerqueira.
The Mozambican President, Daniel Chapo, received this Friday the president of the parliament, who represented the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at the ceremony of the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence, on Wednesday, having highlighted the need to maintain peace in both countries and in the region, which is essential for social justice, development and prosperity.
"We believe that the leaders of both countries are attentive and concerned about a better future for our people. We have come to deliver a message (...) that once again reaffirms the friendship and importance of bilateral cooperation between the two countries so that, in the regional context of Southern Africa, SADC [Southern African Development Community] and at an international level, we, the two countries, the two peoples, can continue to move forward in favour of peace", said Carolina Cerqueira.
The speaker of parliament also said that she had received assurances from the Mozambican head of state that Mozambique would be represented at the "highest level" in the celebrations of Angola's 50th anniversary of independence, in November.
Mozambique and Angola were Portuguese colonies, but the two African countries became independent in 1975, and this year they are celebrating 50 years of independence, achieved through armed struggle.
