PRA-JA Servir Angola Board confident in legalization later this month

The coordinator of the Installation Commission of PRA-JA Servir Angola said in Luanda he believed that the legalization of his party could happen later this month, stressing that the interaction with the Constitutional Court has been "quite positive.

Abel Chivukuvuku, who was speaking at a press conference to report on the extraordinary appeal filed with the Constitutional Court as part of its legalization, said that the court still has about 30 days, of the 60 allowed by law, to rule on the case.

According to the politician, on October 26 the commission delivered the allegations of the extraordinary appeal of unconstitutionality, reiterating that all the dictates of the Law on Political Parties were "strictly" complied with.

"In fact, the Installation Commission of PRA-JA Servir Angola, having delivered 32,061 declarations of acceptance - of which 4300 with signatures recognized by notary publics of the Republic of Angola, did much more than was required by law for its legalization, a fact that witnessed its implementation throughout the national territory and reflects, at the same time, the sympathy and support it has from broad bangs of the Angolan population," he said.

The politician stressed that the Installation Commission "continues to maintain a posture of serenity and very positive interaction with the Constitutional Court while waiting for the legalization that, he believes, will occur during this month of December 2020.

Abel Chivukuvuku said he hopes that "the national interest and respect for citizens' fundamental rights, based on the rule of law, will take precedence over mere party interests.

"Whatever happens, we will participate in the political life of the country, because it is a constitutional right that assists all citizens and cannot be only the privilege of a small group of individuals," he stressed.

According to Abel Chivukuvuku, at this moment there is no reason to think of a new rejection of the process, because all precepts have been fulfilled.

"So let's wait, anyway we have the right to participate in national political life and that's what will happen," reinforced the coordinator of the Installation Commission of PRA-JA Servir Angola.

Asked if participation in national political life would involve joining a political party, namely the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), of which he was once a leader, Abel Chivukuvuku rejected, exemplifying that in order to participate in the local elections you don't need to have a party, just 500 subscribers.

"There are many ways (of participating in political life), so this is not a matter of explanation today while we are still concluding with the PRA-JA process," stressed the politician, who was president of the second opposition force, the Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) until February 2019.

When PRA-JA Servir Angola is legalized, the first step will be the beginning, in February of next year, of the process of institutionalization of the party, which will end in the first half of 2021 with the holding of the first constitutive congress.

The process of legalizing PRA-JA Servir Angola has been dragging on since August 2019, with successive Constitutional Court 'failures', alleging irregularities in the documentation presented for this purpose.
