Health fence at the National Institute of Petroleum was raised this Tuesday

The health fence set up at the National Institute of Petroleum (INP) in November this year after more than a hundred cases of covid-19 were registered, was raised this Tuesday.

According to Alegria Joaquim, the institute's general director, keeping 746 people closed, among students and employees, was a great challenge, but fulfilling the orders of the health authorities helped speed up the recovery process of those infected.

"It was a very big experience to keep 653 students, 92 workers and a minor of four years in sanitary fence, with stopped classes", he indicated, quoted by Angop.

Due to the implementation of the fence, the students ended up losing the classes of the first quarter of the school year: "We lost the first quarter of the school year, which goes until June, and therefore we are asking the Ministry of Education for the viability of a specific readjusted school calendar for INP, with specific methodologies, so that the students do not lose the school year".

Although the fence was raised this Tuesday, the students will continue at the institute during the festive season. "We have all the conditions created for the students to spend Christmas in a dignified way. That's why we appeal to parents' understanding of the need to keep their children here," said INP's director general.

Several students, quoted by Angop, said they are more enlightened about the new coronavirus and understand why everyone should respect the guidelines of health authorities.

The fence was set up in November after 149 cases of covid-19 were registered.

The INP is located in Sumbe, Kwanza Sul province, and has more than 600 students registered.
