Country with 42 new covid-19 infections, three deaths and 103 recovered

The health authorities announced this Monday the registration of 42 new infections by the new coronavirus, three deaths and the recovery of 103 people, adding the country 16,686 cases, 390 deaths and 9695 recovered.

The epidemiological data of the last 24 hours presented by the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, indicate that the cases, aged between 11 and 67 years - 32 men and 10 women - are distributed throughout the provinces of Luanda (20), Cabinda (12), Huambo (5), Cuando Cubango (3), Uíge and Malanje, each with one case.

Regarding the death, they were registered in the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Luanda and Uíge, all men, Angolans, aged 42, 55 and 74.

In the last 24 hours, the data points to the recovery of 103 people, 38 in the province of Cunene, 35 in Lunda Sul, 28 in Luanda and two in Huambo, aged between six and 74 years.

For now, the country has a total of 6601 active cases, five of which are in critical condition, five severe, 71 moderate, 134 mild and 6386 asymptomatic, with 215 patients being monitored at treatment centers.

Regarding the laboratories, in the last 24 hours 1274 samples were processed, 42 of which were positive, giving a daily positive rate of 3.3 per cent, while the cumulative to date points to a total of 286,973 samples processed, 16,686 of which were positive, representing a cumulative positive rate of 5.8 per cent.

Regarding the testing at the entry and exit points of Luanda, under sanitary fence, the data indicate that this Monday 1733 people were tested, of which 1397 male and 336 female, of this number 285 people were reactive, which represents an exposure rate of 16.4 per cent, having been found two positive people in the confirmation tests.

"So two people wanted to leave Luanda taking the disease, here again the call for attention," said Franco Mufinda, appealing to the population "intelligent management" of the festive season, recalling the need for individual and collective protection.

Angola is, among the Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, the one with the most deaths due to covid-19, with 387 deaths and 16,644 cases, followed by Mozambique (148 deaths and 17,558 cases), Cape Verde (111 deaths and 11,579 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5231 cases), Guinea-Bissau (44 deaths and 2446 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 1009 cases).

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,685,785 deaths resulting from more than 76.2 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
