Covid-19: country reports 27 new cases and five deaths

The Secretary of State for Public Health announced this Sunday that 27 more covid-19 infections have been confirmed, now totaling 16,188 cases detected in the country, and five more deaths.

Franco Mufinda said that 20 cases were diagnosed in Luanda, three in Cunene, two in Moxico, one in Huambo, and the same number in Zaire province, aged between 9 and 78 years, of which 17 were male and 10 female.

In the last 24 hours, five deaths were registered, two in Moxico, two in Namibe and one in Lunda Sul, three males and two females aged 39, 46, 51, 52 and 56, of which four were angolan nationals and one was a citizen of Mauritania.

57 patients were given as recovered from the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

The total number of infections detected so far amounts to 16,188 cases, deaths by covid-19 total 371, there are 8898 recovered and 6919 active, including six critics and seven severe.

1943 samples have been processed in an accumulation of 270,576 tests to date.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 1,605,583 deaths from more than 71.6 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.

In Africa, there are 55,989 confirmed deaths in more than 2.3 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

Among Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola has 371 deaths and 16,188 cases, followed by Mozambique (142 deaths and 16,954 cases), Cape Verde (110 deaths and 11,357 cases), Equatorial Guinea (85 deaths and 5,185 cases), Guinea-Bissau (44 deaths and 2444 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (17 deaths and 1009 cases).
