Covid-19: Angola expects first tranche of five million vaccines in February

The country should receive the first tranche of five million vaccines against covid-19 in February 2021, and expects another seven million by April, announced Health Minister Silvia Lutucuta.

:

"We believe that, at least, until February, we will have the opportunity to receive the first tranche of five million and what is scheduled is until April to receive the rest", out of a total of 12 million, stressed the minister after the daily epidemiological balance concerning Covid-19.

Sílvia Lutucuta stressed that vaccination will have very specific rules: "Health professionals and people at risk, with advanced ages or comorbidities will be vaccinated first, that is where we will start".

The vaccination plan will be shared, "in a timely manner", with the population, she added.

The minister stressed that a vaccination campaign of this dimension "has a multisectoral scope" so the Government is working to define several aspects, including the cold chain for vaccine conservation.

According to Silvia Lutucuta, Angola will have access in the first phase to the Pfizer vaccine, but it could receive others that are in the final stage of study and have applications for authorization, such as the Russian and Chinese ones, "as long as there is WHO certification World Health Organization] and similar entities, with guarantee that they will be effective and will bring less side effects ".

In total, since the detection of the first cases in the country, on March 21, Angola recorded 15,925 cases of covid-19, including 362 deaths and 8679 recoveries.

There are currently 6884 active cases registered, with seven people in critical condition and seven in serious condition.
