UAE to invest one billion dollars in solar energy parks in Angola

The visit of the President of the Republic and his delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has already begun to bear fruit.

:

Speaking in Abu Dhabi, João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water, announced an investment of one billion dollars by the UAE Government in the construction of solar energy production and distribution parks – next year – in some provinces of Angola.

The responsible for the Energy portfolio said that the investment will be implemented in the east of the country, more specifically in the provinces of Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte. He also added, according to Angop, that the ministry's goal is to universalize access to electricity, especially in the interior, benefiting more than 15 million citizens.

Thus, President João Lourenço signed this Monday with the Government of the Emirates a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the energy sector. The agreement involves Masdar (Abu Dhabi Energy Company) and the Ministry of Energy and Water, establishing a program for the production and conservation of solar energy.

According to the most recent data (2019), Angola will have a production capacity of 14 megawatts of solar energy, coming from rural areas in the provinces of Bié, Cuando Cubango, Zaire, Lunda Sul, Moxico, Lunda Norte, Cunene, Huíla and Cuanza Sul.
