‘Flor do Imbondeiro’ stamp collection launched by Correios to spread Angola around the world

‘Flor do Imbondeiro’ is the name given to the collection of stamps that Correios de Angola launched this Thursday. Authored by Elsa Barber, former Secretary of State for Social Action, this collection aims to promote this symbol of the African continent, especially Angola, globally.

This initiative, according to Angop, aims to praise the aforementioned tree, as well as encourage young people to use stamps (philatelic pieces) as tools for social and human interactions.

According to Elsa Barber, relationships are affected by technology, but one should not wait for the Internet to solve all problems, which is why it provides literacy in philately, which is the collection of postage stamps.

More than including the collection of items such as stamps, blocks, among others, according to the author, philately also makes it possible to analyze and understand important occasions in the history of people.

Elsa Barber also considered that "seals are effective as sources of knowledge".

"Wisdom is like the trunk of a baobab tree, you cannot embrace it alone. Stamps are effective as sources of knowledge and in addition to popularizing information, they fulfill a social role", she said, quoted by Angop.

Gilberto Dala, head of the Sales and Customer Management and Philately Department at Correios de Angola, made it known that these stamps can be found in all Correios de Angola branches, having also considered that the initiative is a celebration of national culture, especially with regard to the country's flora.

Quoted by Angop, the person responsible said that this instrument will motivate young people to balance their focus between technology and culture.

In turn, after the launch of the collection, Manuel Gonçalves, vice-governor of Luanda for the Political and Social Sector, expressed satisfaction with the project, which brings back nostalgic memories of the time when letters were sent by post. This initiative, he added, also reminds young people of the relevance that philately had in times past, considering that we are currently in a digital era with a generation that has not experienced these events.
