According to a government statement, to which VerAngola had access, the decorations will be awarded both in life and in death.

"National and foreign citizens, living or deceased, who contributed in a different way to the achievement of national independence, will be decorated with commemorative medals, within the scope of the 50th anniversary of national independence", the note reads.

Speaking within the scope of the 11th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers, which took place this Thursday and which considered the Proposed Law that creates the commemorative medal for this anniversary, Adão de Almeida, Minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, explained that the awards should be made in three different categories.

The first class, called the Class of Honor, will be destined for heads of State and Government, and "other dignitaries who had some relevant participation in the process of national independence".

In the second class, the Independence and Peace Medal was defined, which aims to "recognize the achievements of the different segments of society that contributed to independence and the achievement of peace", while for the third class the Development Medal was established, with a view to the recognition of "all segments of society, who contributed in different ways to the achievement of Angola throughout these 50 years of independence".

Thus, the minister explained that they will "essentially" cover three moments: pre-independence, post-independence until reaching peace and "all moments of the 50 years".

"We are essentially talking about three moments. It is the pre-independence moment, post-independence until the achievement of peace, and all moments of the 50 years in the most different segments", he said, quoted in the statement.

"The expectation is that, with probably a high number of citizens, once the law is approved by the National Assembly, more than one decoration session will be held over the next year," he added.

According to Adão de Almeida, this Friday the public presentation of the general program of celebrations is scheduled to take place, as well as the official launch of the celebration period.
