According to the press release from the meeting held this Thursday under the guidance of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the program for the festivities of Angola's 50 years of independence, which takes place on November 11, 2025, avoids "excessive politicization and partisan connotations, privileging citizen participation".
The counselors suggested wide dissemination, by all possible means, of the events contained in the commemoration program, so that the nation can mobilize around this historic moment, with several announcing their intention to present proposals to the interministerial commission in charge of the festivities plan, reads the statement.
The Minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida, and coordinator of the interministerial commission, said, when presenting the program to the counselors, that on November 22nd this year the period of celebrations will open, which begins with the holding of a national forum on the quality of the education and teaching system.
"The aim of these types of events is to reflect, in this specific case, on what our education and teaching system has been over the 50 years, as well as to reflect on the future in relation to the matter under discussion", mentioned.
According to Adão de Almeida, the forum is the first activity to be carried out as part of the festivities, but the official launch will only take place on November 29th, close to Largo da Independência, with an act that aims to highlight, whether with presences or with the model of the activity, "the historic moment of the proclamation of independence".
With the festive actions, the aim is to reinforce patriotism and national pride, promote knowledge about the history and culture of Angola, reflect on the challenges faced and future opportunities for the country's development and celebrate solidarity and cooperation between various sectors of society, says the statement.
The festivities will be held between November 11, 2024 and December 31, 2025, with the participation of more than 8000 people and guests from 70 countries, in the central event to be held on November 11 of next year, in which the chief of State will give a speech and two parades will take place, one civil and the other military.
Angola achieved its independence on November 11, 1975, putting an end to Portuguese colonization.
