In a note published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) on the social network X, Portugal "congratulates the Angolan people, their Government and institutions, as well as their diaspora in Portugal" on the 49th anniversary of the African country's independence.

"We will continue to deepen our privileged and fraternal relationship, with an eye on the future, for the well-being of our People", highlighted the MNE.

The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), an organization of which Angola is a member state, highlighted that this day is “an important symbol of the struggle for self-determination”, hoping that “the date continues to be an important moment of exaltation of values and achievements of the Angolan people”.

The organization's executive secretary states, in a letter sent to President João Lourenço, that the CPLP joins "this celebration of national affirmation and development, in an environment of peace”, according to a note published on the community's official website.

Zacarias da Costa also highlighted "Angola's continued commitment to playing a leading and active role in the Community, always contributing dynamism to strengthening the ties that unite the Member States".

In addition to Angola, CPLP member states are Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.

Angola proclaimed its independence from Portugal on November 11, 1975, now beginning the celebration of the date's 50th anniversary, which will be celebrated next year.
