This Monday, the MPLA greeted Angolans on the 49th anniversary of Independence Day, calling for it to be “a moment of unity and reflection” around the legacy of those who fought for freedom.

In a note from the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, the party acknowledges the dedication of those who participated directly in the "long and arduous process of struggle" against colonial occupation and "aggressions" against the Angolan people and those who did everything to prevent the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) from proclaiming National Independence, recalling the "inspiring leadership" of António Agostinho Neto, the country's first President.

The MPLA stresses that this is the most significant and memorable date in the history of the Republic of Angola and "a moment of unity and reflection on the legacy of those who fought for freedom", as well as an invitation for everyone to participate "actively in the construction of a more prosperous and fair Angola".

The MPLA, the party in power since independence on 11 November 1975, anticipates "with enthusiasm" the milestone of 50 years of Independence, which will be celebrated in 2025, and urges the executive to rigorously comply with the governance programme, especially with regard to "the living conditions of the population and promoting the growth and sustainable development of the national economy".
