This disease is causing great distress in the neighbouring country of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and, at a time when two cases of Mpox have already been detected in Angola, the national health authorities have been adopting measures to try to put a stop to the entry of Mpox into national territory.
Cabinda is no exception and, according to the official, it has already adopted measures to combat the spread of the disease, such as the installation of the laboratory.
However, the laboratory is not the only measure adopted by the province. Speaking during a press conference held this Thursday, Gabriel Nionje reported that the province has set up a multisectoral commission with health technicians and defence and security bodies at the main border points with the DRC and Congo, in order to check people entering the country.
Quoted by Angop, the official said that the samples are sent to the newly installed laboratory and, if there are any uncertainties, they are forwarded to Luanda for a more precise diagnosis.
Recently, he added, the health sector in Cabinda met with professionals from public and private units, during which guidelines were provided on how to act in the event of a positive test, as well as the recommendation to create specific teams and rooms.
Also present at this meeting were health professionals linked to the Border Guard Police, the Migration and Foreigners Service and the Angolan Armed Forces, writes Angop.
It should be recalled that, last Saturday, the Ministry of Health announced the registration of the first case of Mpox in the country. However, this Thursday, the number of cases increased, with the ministry announcing the detection of a second case of Mpox.
