According to a statement from the Matala municipal administration, which VerAngola had access to, with the inauguration of the Matala Municipal Health Reference Centre, Huíla now has three specialist hospital units for the treatment of tuberculosis and respiratory diseases.

Built within the scope of the Integrated Municipal Intervention Plan (PIIM), the infrastructure has "multiple areas to serve the eastern and central regions of the province, namely Jamba, Cuvango and Chipindo, Chicomba and Quipungo".

Thus, the hospital unit has a laboratory for biochemistry and haematology tests.

In addition, the centre also has "a capacity of 22 beds" for inpatient and observation rooms.

On the occasion, the provincial governor, quoted in the statement, said that Matala "plays a fundamental role in providing specialised health services in the central and eastern regions of the province", and promised to "continue working with the aim of building more hospital units with more specialised health services to relieve the pressure on the municipality of Lubango".

"We have delivered a centre that will respond to respiratory diseases, which will cover Matala, Cuvango, Jamba and Chipindo and will thus be the protective antechamber to relieve the great pressure that our reference hospital in Lubango is still experiencing", said Nuno Bernabé Mahapi Dala, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

"With the inauguration of this centre, we will have three regional care centres (...). We believe that with the placement of specialists (...) in these health units we should have a very good response capacity at provincial level", considered the director of the provincial health office, Paulo Luvangamo.

On behalf of the population of Matala, Bernardo Cundi, quoted in the municipal administration's note, praised this government initiative in "bringing specialized health services to Matala and neighboring municipalities".
