BNA's Cash Center will store and process more than 800 million bills per day

The construction of the Cash Center – the new logistics center of the National Bank of Angola (BNA) – has already started, budgeted at 32.7 billion kwanzas. The structure, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, will make it possible to store and process more than 800 million banknotes per day.

The building, located in the Luanda-Bengo Special Economic Zone, began construction in August, and the works are proceeding at a good pace, according to the director of the Circulation Department of the Central Bank, Sebastião Banganga.

The conclusion is scheduled for the month of July 2022, the person in charge further advances, noting that the Cash Center is part of the strategy of modernizing BNA's services, in order to revolutionize the management of the Surrounding Environment. The works are in charge of the construction company Omatapalo.

To Angop, the director also underlined that the central bank is also working on the rehabilitation of its regional infrastructures in several provinces such as Lunda Norte, Huíla, Benguela and Uíge.

With regard to the provinces where the BNA is not physically present, he revealed that custody houses are being opened in partnership with commercial banks.

In this way, and in accordance with these new investments, the regional delegations will be able to process 33 bills per second, reaching a packaging capacity of 10,000 bills per minute.

Sebastião Banganga also recalled that, from the first day of January of next year – and until July 31, 2022 – the notes of the 2012 series will lose release, that is, they will no longer be accepted as a means of payment.
