Ministry of Finance exchanges controversial library for “heritage accommodation”

The Ministry of Finance (Minfin) replaced the project for the construction of the library of the Presidency of the Republic, registered in the General State Budget (OGE) for 2021, with the “construction of infrastructures to accommodate the heritage” that includes the same amount.

The initial version of the document, made available on the Minfin page, included in the expenses of the Presidency of the Republic the study project and "construction of the gallery and library", deserving mention in the weekly Valor Económico, which, on Monday, reported that the work had suffered an increase of 164 percent compared to the figure contained in the revised OGE for 2020.

At the time, the project had an estimated cost of 1.2 billion kwanzas, but ended up being withdrawn due to the controversy caused, appearing later in the preliminary version of the OGE for 2021 with a value of 3.2 billion kwanzas.

On Tuesday, the document was unavailable on Minfin's website with the message "page under construction".

In the preliminary version of the OGE 2021 which is now on the ministry's website, under the heading "Construction and rehabilitation of public buildings and social facilities", the reference to the library is replaced by "study and construction of infrastructure to accommodate heritage" ", whose expenditure is exactly the same: 3,163,045,115 kwanzas.

Lusa sought to obtain clarification on this equipment from Minfin, which has not been possible so far.
