Members want to cut 1.3 billion kwanzas for Presidency library

The General State Budget (GSB) for this year foresees the allocation of 1.3 billion kwanzas for the equipping of the library of the Presidency of the Republic. This is an expense that will continue even after the revision of the document.

The continuity of the budget in the State Budget has given rise to doubts and discussion among MEPs in view of the economic crisis the country is going through due to the covid-19. Some party representatives in the National Assembly even asked the Executive to reduce the amount in order to strengthen other more important sectors at this stage.

Raul Danda of UNITA explained that the members are not "against the equipping of the library of the Presidency of the Republic". However, "given the economic crisis and the covid-19 pandemic we think it should be reduced", he commented, quoted by Novo Jornal.

Among other changes is the suggestion of Maria Fernandes, MPLA deputy, who reminded the government that the money allocated for Expo Dubai could be used in another sector, since the event will no longer be held this year.

It is recalled that the revised State Budget was approved in general on Wednesday, with 133 votes in favour of MPLA and FNLA, no votes against and 53 abstentions from UNITA, CASA-CE and PRS.
