Covid-19: mass testing is now reserved for health professionals and hospitalized patients

The country registered 141 new infections by the new coronavirus, without any death, in the last 24 hours, and with five patients recovered, informed this Monday the Secretary of State for Public Health.

The ruler stressed that the multisectoral commission no longer carries out mass testing at individual request, as it had previously done, but prioritizes risk analysis in the case of registration of a case in some institution, trying to restrict at least the most direct contacts for testing.

"We change the strategy, especially with regard to Luanda, being in an environment of community circulation, we base the whole démarche on the risk analysis that is done by health teams," he said.

The secretary of state said that testing is now reserved for health professionals, patients inpatients or outpatients, for reasons other than covid-19, suspected cases, corpses, regardless of their cause of death, and travelers.

According to Franco Mufinda, the multi-sectoral commission continues to carry out sero-epidemiological studies in markets, schools, and sentinel schools, so that from time to time observatory studies or measuring the behavior of the disease regarding community exposure can be carried out.

Franco Mufinda appealed to the families of the people who had covid-19 as the cause of death and to accept their loss, as well as to stop "diverting corpses," which "is beginning to be a practice, which unfortunately has been observed in some provinces.

"This ends up exposing the people who handle the corpse and transpose the contamination in the community, so we appeal to people's consciences not to do so, because the corpse ends up being a real source of contamination," he said.

Franco Mufinda said in his daily presentation of the country's epidemiological situation that of the total number of cases, aged between 2 and 83 years, 50 were registered in Moxico province, 43 in Luanda, 14 in Cabinda, 11 in Kwanza Sul, 11 in Huila, 10 in Benguela, one in Cuando Cubango and the same number in Huambo.

With the numbers of the last 24 hours, the country now totals 14,634 cases, 337 deaths, 7351 recovered and 6946 active, of which five critically ill, 11 severe, 184 moderate, 216 mild and 6530 asymptomatic.

Regarding laboratory analyses, 2513 samples were processed in the last 24 hours, 141 of which were positive, which represents a daily positivity rate of 5.6 percent.

The cumulative figure points to 217,706 samples to date, of which 14,634 were positive, giving a cumulative positivity rate of 6.7 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 1,388,590 deaths from more than 58.6 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.
