Economic reforms boost Angola's Doing Business ranking

It is expected that by October of next year, the country will rise in the Doing Business ranking - a list drawn up by the World Bank that analyzes economies. According to forecasts, Angola could be in position 158, an increase justified with the reforms that the government has been carrying out in various sectors of the economy.

In this year's ranking, Angola is ranked 177, down four places from the 2019 list. In the 2019 ranking, the country had managed to improve its four-place ranking, but lost those places again this year.

Laércio Cândido, head of the Competitiveness and Innovation Department at the Ministry of Economy and Planning, considered that the country has made great strides in recent years and stated that these achievements have been reported to the World Bank.

In the eyes of the person in charge, for Angola to reach 158th place on the list it is necessary to improve the business environment. The model of government leadership must be improved and these changes must begin to be made already, he suggested, quoted by Angop.

Laércio Cândido also said that the improvement of the business environment is already part of the Executive's plans, being integrated in the 2018/2022 National Development Plan.

In addition, Angola is also working on improving its electronic platforms. According to him, the multi-sector reform management committee will help strengthen these platforms, which will simplify administrative services and end some less necessary procedures.

He also admitted that the country has about a year to fight for 158th place in the ranking and said that to do so it will be necessary to mobilize all efforts to work in this direction.

For about 10 years the country has been fighting to improve its economy. According to Angop, Angola is making the transition of the services provided by the administration to the digital environment and the reduction of deadlines and costs - such as the reduction from 373 days to 184 days to obtain a building permit.

Among other examples is the fact that the country has ended the public deed obligation and the tax to start activity. Also noteworthy is the Guiché Online, which allowed Angola to improve the area of business opening and the introduction of the ASYCUDA platform, which helps in the customs clearance of goods.

Angola's strength in the ranking is related to the improvements made in the payment of taxes by the Ministry of Finance, through the General Tax Administration, the opening of companies and obtaining building permits, electricity and property registration.

The registration of solvency, obtaining credit and contracts are still factors to be improved.
