In the final statement of the 3rd extraordinary session of the CC, which took place this Wednesday in Luanda, the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) urged its members, friends and supporters to "engage with dynamism and responsibility in the preparation of this important event".

In his opening speech, the party's president and head of state, João Lourenço, said that the country should be proud of its history and its trajectory over the course of almost half a century of existence, and highlighted that, in recent years, Angola has been improving its reputation and gaining great prestige in the international arena, thanks not only to its dynamic diplomacy, but above all to the reforms carried out in various areas of the country's political, economic and social life.

According to João Lourenço, in the coming days, the executive will approve the broad programme of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of national independence (proclaimed on 11 November 1975), a national celebration that will take place throughout 2025.

The festivities will include political, cultural, recreational and sporting activities, fairs and exhibitions, inaugurations of infrastructures and economic and social undertakings, with their peak in November, when "important guests" are expected to be welcomed, who will share "the joy of a free and independent people".

"Angolan citizens, political parties, churches and civic associations will be active participants in this great event, to which Angola calls all its children", he said.

At the CC meeting held on Wednesday, several documents were considered and approved, including the general programme of the congress and the internal programme of the congress, as well as the indicative schedule of actions for the congress under the theme "MPLA – from Independence to the Present Day: The Future Challenge".

According to the statement, the CC "heartily welcomed the efforts of the executive, led by Comrade President João Lourenço, in conducting foreign policy, with a view to promoting and gaining prestige for the country, attracting investment and strengthening peace and security in Africa and the world".
