According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the agreement covers the "design, licensing, financing, engineering and construction of the facility".

Orlando da Mata, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sonangol Research and Development Center, Vladimir Machado, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Sonangol Research and Development Center, Michael Scholey, CEO of CWP, Stefan Tavares Bollow, CEO of Gauff, and Julian Reichert on behalf of Conjuncta CEO Stefan Liebing, were the signatories of the agreement.

Located in the municipality of Barra do Dande, the aforementioned green hydrogen project will produce up to 1200 tons of ammonia to export to the European market.

The project will also include "the installation of 600 MW of renewable energy capacity – generated from hydroelectric sources – as well as a 400 kV substation and adequate water treatment".

Also within the scope of the Angola Oil & Gas conference, Sonangol reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging the sustainable development of hydrocarbons.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of Sonangol, Sebastião Gaspar Martins, speaking at a session 'In Conversation With...', said that the oil company will not abandon oil and gas, but will advance in the decarbonized development of these resources.

"We are analyzing opportunities in the gas sector and have identified the right partner to develop non-associated gas. The gas produced by Angola LNG will be used to produce fertilizers, and we are evaluating the use of gas in the south of the country, connecting the gas to the steel industries. We also have a blue carbon project, linked to carbon reduction through the planting of mangroves. We have an area in Luanda and have identified four additional areas for this purpose", he said, quoted in another statement sent to VerAngola.

Sebastião Gaspar Martins also spoke about the transformation that Sonangol has undergone in recent years, following the creation of the National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) in 2019, which transferred its role as concessionaire and national regulator.

"This transformation aimed to make Sonangol more competitive and strengthen its capacity as an upstream operator. At the same time, the government is partially privatizing the national oil company, with the privatization expected to be completed in 2026. This process will increase financial capacity, allowing Sonangol to move forward with new upstream projects," the statement reads.

According to Sonangol's CEO, the oil company's transformation began several years ago: "Sonangol's transformation began several years ago, when we transferred the role of regulator and concessionaire to ANPG. At the time, we transferred almost 600 employees to ANPG. After that, Sonangol went through a restructuring program, in which we created five main business units from 36 different entities – starting with exploration and production. We want to go public, but we want to do it correctly. That's why we are currently going through all the processes to do so," said Sebastião Gaspar Martins.
