The program for the solemn plenary meeting to open the 2nd Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly was approved this Monday by the Permanent Committee, which met under the guidance of the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira.

The message on the State of the Nation, to be delivered by the head of State as provided for in the Constitution, will be the highlight of the solemn meeting.

The Head of State "will speak about the recommended policies for resolving the main issues of the Nation and the well-being of Angolans".

It should be noted that initially the start of the second parliamentary year of the fifth legislature of parliament was scheduled for October 15th. The opposition did not let this change go unnoticed, with UNITA speaking out against the change.

UNITA's position was expressed by deputy Liberty Chiyaka: "UNITA understands that the solemn meeting to open the legislative session must take place on the constitutional date, which is 15 October", said the deputy, who, quoted by Angop, added that the October 15th "can be any day of the week, but the constitutional date must be observed".

According to Jornal de Angola, in the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature (2022-2023), deputies to the National Assembly held three solemn sessions, eight ordinary plenary meetings, nine extraordinary plenary meetings and two meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Group of the National Assembly.

During the sessions, in general, 19 legal diplomas were approved, in the form of a law, of which five were put to the final global vote and three were already published in the Diário da República, some on the initiative of the deputies, through the parliamentary groups.

46 resolutions were also approved, 35 of which were published in the Diário da República.
