According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, the hospital unit – with a capacity for 250 beds and which is "benefiting from rehabilitation and modernization works that should be completed in March 2024" – was visited in Saturday by the President of the Republic, who "received detailed information about the ongoing work that aims to ensure a more humanized service to users".

According to the head of Health, who spoke at the end of the head of state's visit, "on its own initiative and with few resources", the hospital began, in phases, the treatment of "some priority areas", such as "rehabilitation operating room and intensive care, with the creation of a new area and expansion of the hemodialysis service", reads the statement.

Sílvia Lutucuta also made it known that they will "take care of all the wards" of the aforementioned hospital unit.

"We will take care of all the wards in this hospital, expand the emergency bench, remove some areas that are inside, such as the cafeteria and kitchen areas, laundry, sterilization, internal consultation and external consultation, in short. All the services of this hospital will be improved", she stated.

The minister added that they brought the President of the Republic "to verify the situation of the hospital on site and also receive precise guidance on the mobilization of resources necessary to complete this work".

On the occasion, the government official also made an appeal for respect for health institutions and professionals.

The appeal, according to another note from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, was made "when talking about the case of the doctor at this hospital unit, attacked and thrown from the first floor below the building, by family members of a patient, who also mistreated other patients and professionals and vandalized equipment".

The Health Minister said that "human life has a lot of value", and the Government is committed to the cause. "Human life has a lot of value and that's why we are here. The Executive is committed to the cause, and so are our professionals, to save lives," she said.

According to the official, the doctor in question "suffered serious fractures to a lower limb", having to undergo surgery and is currently in the recovery phase.

She also made it known that "the security of health units is being reinforced, as a result of work in close collaboration with the National Police", adding that "zero tolerance has been declared for bad practices and poor service to users of health services", reads the statement.

Thus, she stated: "Providing medical assistance is an act of love, of compassion, which we have to pay close attention to. Because people are already in a vulnerable situation and we cannot, on top of everything that is going on with the health of the patient, even worsen".

The minister also mentioned that disciplinary processes are underway, having warned that "in situations of bad practice by some hospital leadership, especially when cases are covered up, the management will be punished".

The head of the Health portfolio highlighted that they want "health professionals who feel part of a big family of lifeguards" and do not want "health professionals who don't know how to live and who are left with a sense of impunity".

Furthermore, she also highlighted that "the improvement of the health service also depends on the education of the population and the readiness to bring patients to health units", the note reads.

Founded in 1974, Hospital do Prenda served a total of 72,951 patients in the first six months of this year. Tomás Cassinda, director of the aforementioned hospital, speaking to Angop, made it known that of this number, 26,877 received care at the emergency bank, while 46,074 were treated in external consultations.

With "an average daily attendance of 700 patients", Hospital do Prenda is a "tertiary level health unit that provides medical and surgical care of medium and high complexity". According to CIPRA, the unit also serves "to support training institutions in health sciences, in undergraduate and postgraduate programs".
