According to the spokeswoman for the meeting, Arminda Milena Ernesto, several issues were discussed, in addition to the detention of a teacher last week, following the attempt of a demonstration, with about 300 students, to claim the lack of sufficient desks in the school, however, repressed by the police, allegedly with gunfire.

The student activist stressed that they were informed that the police had already taken "some action".

"He said that one of the commanders has already been removed from his post, they say they are dealing with this situation and we are here waiting, he did not give many details, but he [the national director of Human Rights] said that he totally disapproves of the act that took place during the march", she stressed.

Arminda Milena Ernesto said that other topics were discussed at the meeting, namely the lack of desks in schools, the free books that are sold, the issue of preventing students from entering classrooms due to the use of long curly hair, the problems of sanitation in schools and the high number of children out of the education system.

"Director Yannick Bernardo, who was one of the founders of MEA, explained that they were unaware that there are schools without desks and that human rights are working to find out which schools have this type of anomaly", she stressed.

The official, continued the student activist, advised the MEA to report existing cases, as well as write to the law bodies, specifically the Ministry of Education.

"He gave us some contacts, some names, so that when we have a problem we can get in touch, because often what is lacking is dialogue, communication", said the spokeswoman for the meeting, stressing that they were also asked to "calm in the approach of subjects".

Arminda Milena Ernesto said that the MEA was also promised to be included in the Human Rights Committee, which includes, among various institutions, representatives of the Ministries of Education, Health, Culture, Justice and Human Rights, the Angolan Bar Association, civil society organizations civil society, churches and traditional authorities.
