Rafael Marques asks for an investigation by the justice of the expenses of the president of the Court of Auditors

Journalist and activist Rafael Marques asked the justice to initiate a lawsuit against the president of the Court of Auditors (TdC) to investigate suspicious expenses, in the amount of millions of dollars.

In the letter addressed to the Attorney General of the Republic, Helder Pitta Grós, the journalist underlines that "the time is for change" and asks for "due supervision" of the acts of Exalgina Gamboa, who denounced on the "Maka Angola" portal in June.

At the time, Rafael Marques de Morais revealed that the judge’s expenses, borne by the public purse through the Court of Auditors’ Private Safe, would amount to around US$4 million and were aimed at equipping the residence, with furniture purchased from two companies.

After the complaint, neither the PGR nor the Court of Auditors commented, and this entity only informed that the expenses incurred by the Court are included in the annual reports approved by the plenary and are carried out based on the rights and benefits of the magistrates provided for by law.

Exalgina Gamboa was also the subject of news, initially broadcast by Africa Monitor and later by Correio Angolense, which involved the freezing of accounts of one of her son's, in Portugal, supposedly constituted with values from the account of the Court of Auditors domiciled at the Yetu bank.

Rafael Marques de Morais returned to the topic, stressing that he has documents that prove that the judge, in addition to spending on furniture and rehabilitation of a house in a "luxurious" condominium that was delivered to him for debut and which were higher than the value of the property (3.5 million dollars) also purchased a home for his deputy, worth US$437,000.

He also points out a "mystery", alluding to the payment of 526 million kwanzas (US$1.2 million at current exchange rates) for the "apparent acquisition of nothing", money that came from the Private Safe for the Nova Vida Urbanization.

This project, it is added in the letter, belongs to the company Imogestin, whose president is the ex-husband of Exalgina Gamboa, Rui Cruz.

Addressing the attorney general, the activist stresses that it is "an absurd waste of funds" that should be returned to the TdC Safe "especially in an atrocious time like this" in which many citizens "are seen every day rummaging through garbage to feed themselves".

"This is an unacceptable situation, absolutely immoral", reinforced Rafael Marques de Morais, calling for action "immediately to put an end to all misuse of public funds" and for "due legal process to be established with a view to investigating of facts that seem suspicious".

In another letter, addressed to the president of the National Assembly, the journalist also draws the attention of Carolina Cerqueira and the deputies to the situation, in the sense that the parliament exercises its role of overseeing the activity of the Court of Auditors, "in order to urgent resolution and administrative, political and criminal accountability".
