"The UNITA parliamentary group follows with great concern the news about the acts of violence carried out by agents of the National Police in Viana, perpetrated against student children who demonstrated yesterday, Thursday, October 13, 2022, for the improvement of conditions at Escola 5008, located in Viana", informed the main opposition party in a note.
The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) "condemns this growing wave of violence carried out by agents of law and order, wielding firearms, especially against innocent and harmless children who claimed only for their rights", the statement added. text.
The statement "urges" the Ministry of the Interior to "put an end, urgently" to what the party calls a "protection of violations of human rights, the Constitution and the law committed by agents of the National Police".
The party "in solidarity", on the other hand, with students and other citizens who, "in the use of their constitutional rights, manifest themselves for the improvement of their living, teaching and working conditions".
A teacher was detained this Friday following a march held this Thursday in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda, accused of having led a group of about 300 students who protested against the lack of desks at school and that would have provoked damage to them.
The demonstration was dispersed by the police who, according to reports circulating on social media, used shots to stop the students' march, who wanted to take the protest to the Ministry of Education in Viana.
