EU will provide 45 million euros to reinforce the implementation of the PREI

The implementation of the Informal Economy Reconversion Program (PREI) should receive a reinforcement of 45 million euros from the European Union (EU). The information was provided this Monday by Jeanette Seppen, head of the EU delegation in Angola, who explained that 15 million euros are also foreseen for technical assistance.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Planning, to which VerAngola had access, the European organization has ensured support for the Government's policies and programs over the next five years (2023-2027). The guarantee was left by Janette Seppen, who had a working meeting with the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João.

At the meeting, the note added, the holder of the Economy and Planning portfolio "presented Angola's priorities to Jeanette Seppen and the conclusion was that the visions of Angola and the 26 are aligned".

According to the statement, until 2027, the focus will be on three main areas: on the development of human capital, with emphasis on education, on governance, focused on improving the business environment, and on the diversification of the economy, mainly agribusiness.

Thus, "the implementation of the Multiannual Indicative Programme, estimated at around 275 million euros, for the biennium 2023/2024" is planned. In turn, the PREI "should receive additional support of 45 million euros, in addition to technical assistance valued at 15 million euros".

As part of the commitment to human capital, the "improvement of teaching and physical facilities at the country's Middle Agrarian Institutes" is planned, via the French Development Agency (Agence Française du Developpment). According to the statement, "the objective is to train around 1000 students annually, to whom the Angolan State wants to support with easy access to land and financial resources, from the banks, so that these students can have the opportunity to open their doors to their own businesses".

Cited in the note, the minister said that the main aim is to work towards "these young people trained in this area to dedicate themselves to the countryside and help in the challenge of seeing Angola be among the countries that produce the most grain in Africa".

Also present at the meeting, which took place at the supervision facilities, were the Secretary of State for the Economy, Ivan Marques dos Santos, the head of the Department for the Economy, Jerónimo Pongolola, the minister's consultant, José Paim, the Partnership Team Leader of the Delegation of the European Union, Isabel Emerson and the Head of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union, Enrico Strampelli.

The note also recalls that the EU assumes itself as one of the Executive's "main partners" in the implementation of the PREI, which so far "has already formalized more than 250,000 economic operators in the main markets of all the provincial capitals of the country".
