The countrys first refined salt factory will be built in Benguela

The announcement was made by the President of the Republic himself during the annual speech on the State of the Nation. In the message, João Lourenço stated that Benguela will be home to the first refined salt production factory in the country, a private investment by a national company.

Without ever revealing which company was behind the project, the PR made it known that from July 2020 to July 2021, salt production was 182,631 tons, higher than the 160,832 tons of the previous year, with a growth of 13.5 per year. cent.

Benguela continues to be the main province in terms of salt production, said the President of the Republic, noting that 74 percent of all production is exported.

Salt production could reach 500 thousand tons/year

With the entry into operation of three new salt pans – within four years – the production of salt in the country could reach a historic number: 500 thousand tons per year.

The numbers were put forward by the president of the Association of Salt Producers and Transporters of Angola (Aprosal), Tottas Garrido. According to the official, the saline market has an estimated capacity of 80 per center of production and collection of the product.

He also made it known that the country currently has a stock of over 20,000 tonnes of salt, produced since May this year.

Producers, on the other hand, defend an adjustment in the VAT (Value Added Tax) rate, from the current 14 percent to five percent. According to them, this would be a way to allow greater consolidation and dynamization of the market.
