Country may start repairing large ships by mid next year

It is estimated that by mid 2021 the country will be able to repair large ships. For this, the possibility of building a repair and maintenance yard for large ships in Baía Farta, Benguela, is under analysis.

:

The start-up of the first shipyard in the country, with the capacity to guarantee the repair and maintenance of large ships is, at the moment, dependent on the resolution of bureaucratic problems, indicated Mauro de Carvalho, managing partner of FAMAR - a service rendering entity.

Cited by Angop, the responsible who spoke at a press conference after presenting the project to the vice-president, Bornito de Sousa, indicated that the company is trying to solve the financing situation with some international entities - such as the African Development Bank - with the objective of releasing the necessary financing for the project to move forward.

Mauro de Carvalho also revealed that the shipyard is budgeted at 181 million dollars and that when it is built it will allow the creation of about 650 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs.

He also considered that the country has the climatic conditions to accommodate shipyards and thus repair and maintain their ships. In addition, he admitted that the money spent to maintain the approximately 300 ships he has abroad, due to lack of internal capacity, will cease to be used, allowing the state to save large amounts of money.
