Parliamentary year kicks off on October 15 with speech on state of the nation

The resumption of parliamentary work in Angola is scheduled for 15 October with a speech by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on the state of the Nation to mark the opening of the session.

The program of the solemn plenary meeting to open the 4th legislative session of the 4th Legislature was approved this Thursday by the parliament's permanent commission, according to information disclosed on the National Assembly website.

According to the 2nd secretary of the board of the National Assembly, Manuel Dembo, the highest point of the meeting will be the message given by the President of the Republic on the state of the Nation "and the policies recommended for resolving the main issues, promoting the well-being of Angolans and development of the country ".

The act obeys a legal imperative initiated after the entry into force of the Constitution of the Republic in 2010.

According to the activity program, the President of the Republic will be received with military honors, followed by the presentation of welcome greetings by the President of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos "Nandó".

The formal sitting will also be marked by the intervention of the President of the National Assembly.

The activity will be carried out by video-conference, within the framework of measures to prevent and combat the pandemic of covid-19.

The deputies residing in Luanda will participate in the meeting from the plenary room and from the various work rooms of the National Assembly, while representatives from the other provincial circles will be present through their respective local offices, via the Zoom digital platform.

Under the terms of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, the legislature comprises five legislative sessions or parliamentary years, with the beginning of each cycle on 15 October and ending on 15 August of the following year.
