A family source of the former minister, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), explained that Augusto Tomás was transported to the Clínica Girassol, presenting a stable health picture. However, he will be sent home, where he will do the treatment and quarantine advised by health authorities.
The former Minister of Transportation is suspected to have contracted the virus on a recent escape from prison to attend his mother's funeral.
In August last year, the former minister was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the crimes of embezzlement, abuse of power in a continuous manner and economic participation. At the time, he was acquitted of the crimes of money laundering, criminal association and participation in business for lack of evidence.
Augusto Tomás' defense eventually appealed the sentence and the court reduced the sentence to eight years and four months in prison.
