Covid-19: Africa passes the 40 thousand dead

Africa today passed the 40 thousand deaths (40,222) due to the covid-19, having registered in the last 24 hours more 9800 infections, for a total of 1,664,212 cases, according to the latest data related to the continent's pandemic.

According to the African Union's Disease Control and Prevention Center (Africa CDC), in the past 24 hours the number of recovered people in the organization's 55 member states was 9672, for a total of 1,372,778 since the start of the pandemic. .

According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, having passed the 20 thousand deaths (20,058), and with 779,932 infected.

In South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, there are 706,304 cases and 18,656 fatalities.

North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 442,329 people infected and 12,656 dead and East Africa now accounts for 196,724 cases of infection and records 3,673 fatalities.

In the West African region, the number of infections is 185,740, with 2707 fatalities, and in Central Africa there are 59,487 cases and 1128 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, records 6142 dead and 105,705 infected, and Morocco passed the three thousand fatalities (3027), accounting for 179,003 cases.

Algeria followed, with 54,616 infections and 1865 deaths.

Among the six most affected countries are also Ethiopia, which has passed 90,000 cases (90,490) and has recorded 1371 fatalities, and Nigeria, with 61,630 infected and 1125 dead.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.
Angola records 251 deaths and 8049 cases, followed by Cape Verde (87 dead and 7901 cases), Equatorial Guinea (83 dead and 5074 cases), Mozambique (78 dead and 11,190 cases), Guinea-Bissau (41 dead and 2403 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 932 cases).
