Ordem dos Médicos considers invalid dismissal of the President

The Order of Doctors of Angola announced that it will hold members responsible for destabilizing the institution responsible and appealed to those who do not see themselves in the current leadership to find, within the legal framework, means to resolve the dispute.

Through its legal office, the Order of Doctors of Angola considered the meeting held on Saturday to be invalid, in which Elisa Gaspar allegedly was dismissed from office and stresses that the convocation of the assembly by the North Regional Council violated the statutes and it was done by default.

In a press release to which the agency Lusa had access, the Ordem dos Médicos called on associates to find ways to resolve disputes and speak in violation of the rules.

According to the jurists, the Order's decision determining the suspension of the aforementioned assembly was not respected, because the North Regional Council has no legitimacy to deliberate matters of national scope, taking into account that the members of Cabinda, Zaire, Uíje and Bengo, that also make up the region, did not participate in the act.

The legal office stresses that the evidence supporting the harmful management has not been clarified.

"In short, the president of the Order of Doctors of Angola will continue in the effective exercise of his functions until the end of his mandate for which he was democratically elected", says the document.

The North Regional Council of the Order of Doctors approved Saturday, at an extraordinary general meeting, the dismissal of President Elisa Gaspar, with new elections to be held in 90 days.

According to the resolution approved at the end of the extraordinary general meeting and read by Arlete Luyele, president of the Northern Regional Council of the Ordem dos Médicos, in addition to the dismissal, it was also decided to create a commission of inquiry to analyze the irregularities and promote an independent audit.

Elisa Gaspar, who has served as president of the Ordem dos Médicos for more than a year, is accused of “misappropriation of funds and harmful management” of the institution, including an alleged diversion of 19 million kwanzas, and “other unjustified expenses” , which led to the convening of the extraordinary general meeting, whose only point was the dismissal of the president.
