In a clarification note sent to Lusa, Ormed's institutional communication office says that it learned of the alleged dismissal of its president, Elisa Gaspar, through the media.
The North Regional Council of the Order of Doctors of Angola approved on Saturday, in an extraordinary general meeting, the dismissal of the president Elisa Gaspar, with new elections to be held in 90 days.
According to the resolution approved at the end of the extraordinary general meeting and read by Arlete Luyele, president of the Northern Regional Council of the Ordem dos Médicos, in addition to the dismissal, it was also decided to create a commission of inquiry to analyze the irregularities and promote an independent audit.
Elisa Gaspar, who has served as president of Ormed for more than a year, is accused of "misappropriation of funds and harmful management" of the institution, including an alleged diversion of 19 million kwanzas, and "other unjustified expenses", which led to the convening of the extraordinary general meeting whose sole point was the dismissal of the president.
According to the Ormed note, doctor Elisa Gaspar was "democratically elected" for a three-year term and the information that has been published "is nothing more than an attempt to manipulate public opinion" to "devalue ongoing reforms" in the Order .
"We reassure our associates that the president of the Order of Doctors of Angola remains in office until the end of his term," the document reads.
Contacted by Lusa, Elisa Gaspar, who has denied all accusations, declined to record an interview stating that she "had nothing to say" and was out of Luanda solving family problems.
The extraordinary assembly also decided to create a commission of inquiry that will be responsible for analyzing the non-conformities presented and conducting an independent audit by an external body to the accounts of the Order.
When the assembly was called, in September, associates express their displeasure with the performance of Elisa Gaspar, which has been sharpened "with the recent occurrences", such as non-alignment with class interests, lack of transparency in the management of resources of the Order and in the presentation of the accounts, and reports of financial mismanagement.
