Among the new cases, four are from Benguela, one from Bengo and 62 from Luanda, aged between 10 months and 65 years, 45 male and 22 female.

Four infected Angolans living in Luanda, 47, two 53, and 64 did not resist the disease, while another 108 recovered.

Angola has 4972 cases, including 183 deaths, 1921 recovered and 2848 active, of which nine were critical, 18 severe, 46 moderate, 95 mild, and the remaining asymptomatic.

In the last 24 hours, the laboratories have processed 1752 samples, moving to a total of 91,510 tests per molecular biology performed so far.

In Luanda, 1500 samples were collected from general education teachers, an activity that will continue on Thursday, a few days before the resumption of classroom activity, scheduled for October 5.

"Testing within the teachers serves as a reading of what is happening in this professional class. We're testing a sample to get a picture of what's happening in this group," said Franco Mufinda.

About 300 samples were also taken from officials of the Ministry of Finance, and a total of 700 are expected, according to the head of health.

The covid-19 pandemic has claimed more than a million lives worldwide since December last year, including 1971 in Portugal, and more than 33.7 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 35,956 confirmed deaths in more than 1.4 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent pandemic statistics on the continent.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases. Angola registers 183 deaths and 4972 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5030 cases), Mozambique (61 deaths and 8728 cases), Cape Verde (59 deaths and 5900 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2362 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 deaths and 911 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
