According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), in the last 24 hours there were in the 55 member states of the organization over 7410 cases of the disease and 6909 recovered, for a total of 1,217,457.
According to Africa CDC, Southern Africa continues to record the highest number of cases of infection and deaths, with 17,919 fatalities out of a universe of 735,520 infected.
In South Africa alone, the continent's most affected country, 672,572 cases and 16,667 deaths are reported.
North Africa, the second most affected area by the pandemic, has 333,593 people infected and 11,024 killed and, in West Africa, the number of infections is 176,173, with 2618 fatalities.
The East Africa region now accounts for 169,393 cases and records 3314 fatalities and in Central Africa there are 57,757 cases and 1079 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities (after South Africa), has 5914 deaths and 103,079 infected, and Morocco accounts for 2152 deaths and 121,183 cases.
Algeria followed, with 51,211 registered cases of infection and 2022 fatalities.
Among the six countries most affected are Nigeria, with 58,647 infected and 1,111 dead, and Ethiopia, with 74,584 cases and 1,191 fatalities.
In relation to African countries whose official language is Portuguese, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases.
Angola records 179 deaths and 4905 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 dead and 5028 cases), Mozambique (59 dead and 8556 cases), Cape Verde (59 dead and 5900 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 dead and 2362 cases) ) and São Tomé and Príncipe (15 dead and 911 cases).
