Located near the Agostinho Neto University Campus and the 11 de Novembro Stadium, the new headquarters began to be built in 2008, says Angop.
Twelve years later, the building will be ready to be inaugurated. The confirmation was given by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, last Thursday during his speech on the State of the Nation.
"We will inaugurate, later this year, the new facilities of the National Archive of Angola, guardian of the memory, history and culture of the Angolan people," said the head of state.
The infrastructure is composed of five floors and was built in an area with 30,540 square meters. It has 69 archive rooms, 39 offices, two laboratories, three exhibition rooms, two auditoriums and nine training rooms.
According to Angop, the new facilities will help improve the conservation and quality of the documentation that is part of the archive. In addition, the new building will also allow the National Archives to integrate into its collection documents made by sovereign bodies after 1975.
Access by researchers and students to this type of documentation will also be facilitated.
The contract, which is the responsibility of the Office of Special Works (GOE), arises under the National Development Plan, which foresees, among other projects, the creation of the National Archives System.
The National Archive of Angola was created in September 2009 and its objective is to evaluate, collect, classify, preserve and divulge documents of historical value and to monitor the functioning of the National Archive System.
