The matter was discussed this Monday between the Government's economic team, led by the Minister of State and Head of Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, and the country's poultry producers, with the aim of increasing national production.
According to the Secretary of State for Agriculture, João Cunha, the country's needs are estimated at 300 thousand tons, but only 10 thousand tons are produced.
João Cunha said that "the secret" to quickly reaching the quantities the country needs "has to do with the production of raw materials, in this case corn and soybeans", for animal feed.
The government official stressed that the business sector is called upon to meet these needs and "substantially reduce imports, which are around 250 million dollars".
"Angola is in a position to do so and the Government is doing everything it can to ensure that in the short term we can see this reversal of the current situation", he stressed.
In turn, the president of the National Association of Poultry Farmers of Angola, Rui Santos, said that producers are experiencing difficulties in importing raw materials, because banks are not providing foreign currency.
"This has led to many poultry farmers, particularly small and medium-sized ones, closing their doors and stopping production, but with the purpose of today's meeting, we will certainly reactivate", Rui Santos told Rádio Nacional de Angola.
